Astroturfing (Wield Your Fortune)

from The Trojan Philanthropy EP by Our Maddest Edges

/

about

Astroturfing is when corporations or governments spend money on covert marketing operations to sway public opinion in their favor. This can be done in online forums, in scientific publications, hidden in films and television or by hiring people to protest. The sky is the limit. This song is about astroturfing and how the falsehoods perpetrated restrict personal and social growth.

lyrics

(Woo woo woo)Who
pays to correct you when you step out of the narrative?
Thought up, bought up
taught as fact yet
Carved from ill intent

Unstable power-driven
Robots write the scenes
That form the minds of those who tune in
To their frequency.

Money's one thing,
but now we see
how you
WIELD YOUR FORTUNE

Half-truth propaganda
Scans my iris, I wish I was
Vicious I would rip this
Business skyward to ex
pose those liars

And if you're trained you see
Just how subtly
This scandal wrinkles flags,
Entire maps would be half mast

Money's one thing,
but now we see
how you
WIELD YOUR FORTUNE

~
Now that I have your attention
I feel the need to mention several problematic practices that can be traced back to the ever increasing gap between the classes. The top of Maslow's pyramid makes a poignant point, yet few glimpse beyond step 2, physical safety, into loving & belonging, not for want of trying, but the luxury of free time- Let alone the peace of mind to formulate healthy habits to the point where we become attractive to others with healthy habits. The powers that shouldn't be use invisible tools to keep us divided by our differences, bickering over issues that are non-issues because of their commonality with basic human rights, such as plant cultivation and loving freely. We should have graduated a century ago, instead we celebrate their allowance. This is class warfare.
~
Don't believe demons who de-
mand we amp up for manned battle between
people who only want to be left alone,
This is industrialized resource laundering
